Water Reservoir Floating Covers

Floating covers are recommended—or in many cases legislated—for drinking water reservoirs to protect the water from being contaminated by rainwater, dirt, bird droppings, dead animals, leaves, and acts of vandalism. At the same time, the covers protect the contents from sunlight, which promotes growth of algae and other unwanted organisms, and prevents evaporation. MPC has designed, fabricated and installed floating reservoir covers in numerous locations in the United States. International applications include India, Israel, France and Kwajelain.

The city of Aberdeen, Washington wanted to upgrade their water treatment system. A major improvement was installation of a floating  membrane cover to keep debris and other contaminants out of their 15 million gallon reservoir. MPC fabricated and installed this cover in 2002, and  a smaller one in 2003, using reinforced polypropylene material in both cases.
