Tank Farm Liners
Tank farms can range in size from huge complexes in refineries, chemical plants,
and airports to clusters of tanks used to store heating oil or
product ingredients in relatively small facilities. They all need
to contain any material that is spilled or leaked before it gets
into the groundwater supply. A geomembrane liner is frequently used
to control spills and leaks. It should be made from material that
will resist damage caused by the tanks’ contents, damage caused by
the elements, any tears or punctures that would allow the contents
to escape. |

The Middletown Center has a small tank farm. A curbed concrete containment
structure holds fuel oil storage tanks and boilers used to heat the
facility. The concrete had indications of cracking, so it was
necessary to add a secondary containment system to protect against
leaks from the tanks, the boilers, and the piping that carried the
fuel. The area was small and the configuration complex, so
PetroGard VI material was chosen for its flexibility and ease of fabrication as well as its resistance to UV damage and damage from
the fuel oil being stored. |
