Aquaculture/Hatchery Liners
|
Liners are used in tanks or ponds which house fish in order to provide a
controlled environment: one with clear water that can be treated
to minimize disease and nuisance weeds. The material must not
emit any harmful chemicals. In many cases, it must conform to
FDA or other stringent requirements. It must have excellent
puncture and tear resistance, especially for farming
applications where it will have to hold up to harvesting and
cleaning, or where the liner is installed over a rocky surface.
The liner must be fabricated and installed so that it is
watertight—preventing seepage can be a major cost savings.
Reinforced polypropylene or
PetroGard VI should be considered for these applications.

The installation at the Neosho National Fish Hatchery was
demanding. MPC technicians lined a pond which was used not only
to house fish, but to provide an environment that made possible
recovery, restoration, and protection of a number of endangered
species. The liner had to be as wrinkle free as
possible—wrinkles could harm smaller fish—so a low co-efficient
of expansion was very important. Because of a very rocky
surface at the bottom of the pond, we installed 12 ounce
nonwoven geotextile under the 36 mil reinforced polypropylene
liner for added puncture protection. |
