Storm Water Collection Liners

Stormwater collection basins are used to contain snowmelt or rainwater which has run off streets, lawns, construction and industrial sites and picked up fertilizers, pesticides, oil or other pollutants on the way to rivers, lakes, and coastal waters. Synthetic liners used for this type of containment must stand up to the pollutants and natural elements they’re exposed to as well as to any other physical or chemical operations used to remove or neutralize collected material. Synthetic liners used when stormwater is collected for other reasons must have different characteristics, such as suitability for contact with drinking water. People in many parts of the world rely on collected rainwater for drinking, cooking, and other personal use. MPC onion tanks and water bladders made from FDA approved material are also used as emergency water tanks. It is estimated that 30,000 to 60,000 people in Hawaii depend on rainwater catchments systems for their water needs.

The central pacific island of Kwajalein is located 2,000 miles west of Hawaii. Rainwater collected on the runways and taxiways at the airport is the only source of fresh water on the island. This photo shows the concrete on the taxiway, which was badly cracked and needed frequent repair, while being lined by MPC technicians. More than two million square feet of reinforced polypropylene material were installed on three damaged areas over a period of three years. The increase in water collection was so great that the storage reservoirs now fill prior to the end of the rainy season.
